Ahhhh, the event that started it all for my running adventures and event career being my 18th event. This year I was feeling great and ready. Since I have been putting plenty of weekly miles and longer distance events I cracked a smile while waiting for the sound of the start.

5k a short distance now as I reflect on those first few months in which running 2 miles fast without stopping was a challenge. When finding time for this new “hobby” was a challenge. That is no more.

At the start there are lots of running friends from work in this event. As usual a like the previous couple years this event is very friendly and fun.  Since this time is so close to Halloween there are also a lot of people wearing costumes. For me, no costume and no goals other than run by effort and have fun.

I ran the entire way and had tons of fun with the additional benefit of a PR. For this my favorite 5k, does not gets any better than that. Another great event and now to close 2013 running year two more events left, a full awaits for me followed by a nice Skinny Turkey Half.

Course: The routes is narrow paved path and a little bit hilly. A water station with water that you encounter twice at mile 1 & 2.1

Venue: Start/finish line with great food and games for the family and kids

Expo: No Expo

Weather: Clear skies, 68º with 64% humidity.

T1D: Sugars within range at start.

Fueling:Pre-Race: Cereal, banana and Latte.

Race: Water at the water station.

Post: Rice & Beans at the event

Learning Points:

• Knowing the course is great
  
• To have a great time improving year over year
• Learning from this event, how far I have gone around speed and endurance.
