After a year of “training”, reading, talking and trying to learn something about running has gone by. This event mark the 1st anniversary race event. Completed in this year’s span:

5 – 5ks
1 – 10k
2 – Half Marathons

Last year, the Cisco Food Bank 5k, was my 1st race event, today it is my 9. Having completed those couple half marathons, 10K and other 5Ks, I felt that it was a good time to reflect about a few general things I learned and appreciate.Cisco5k2011

1) I know more than I knew a year ago about running
2) I still do not now jack about running, and still have tons to learn
3) I was feeling much better mentally and physically for this year’s event.

This time the race, different from the previous year, went without a hitch. Last year I was just doing ok and suffered a calf cramp with about a half mile to go that stopped me with pain. This time the goal was to finish again under 30min. With that in mind, I ran my best 5k performance of the year. I did it by improving my PR for the 5k to a solid 29:15. Second time going under the 30 minute mark. I was able to run the whole thing without suffering from fatigue or cramps. The legs felt great all the way to the end. The PR improvement might sound not much but a 210lb with 5’10” heavy frame it was good enough for me.

To the upcoming running season I said “bring it.” I already have a few good races scheduled, including another half at Walt Disney World. Which is going to be amazing. I am definitely looking forward to complete that one and the new big challenge for this coming year the Full.
