I perhaps did not mentioned of my Scrub Run post from two years ago, but now that some time has passed, I do still remember it. This year coming from several events ups and downs, a bad full marathon performance, a very successful REI 10K in under an hour. I decided to go at it again this year and redeem myself and try for a PR. In the morning day of the event, the usual, oatmeal, latte and a banana. Got to the bathroom just before I leave the house and drive early to the start area. Last time the weather was a little bit misty. This year was cool, sunny and dry.
I arrived at the event area with plenty of time. Since this is a short event, I decided to warm up a little bit. Some light jog with some high knee and butt kicks, followed by some short sprints. Just enough to break a sweat. I lined up at the starting corral and decided to start way in the back of the pack, which it was kind of a mistake for this short race, since there were too many people, more than the REI 10k and since I already warmed up I needed to find a fast pace fast. With so many people I end up having to zig zag a lot until we spread out enough to run comfortably without being force to switch speed or change the cadence.

A down hill, followed by a long up hill. Sun was out and it was getting warm. At the roundabout it was turnaround time and I was doing great, pushing hard but feeling ok. Then it was back to the starting line, running around a pace of 8:45 min per mile. At the down hill I made some time, but as I reach the start of an uphill, around mile 5, I felt that I needed to walk some, no air and heart rate felt too high. So I did some quick walk up hill for about 3 minutes. Then at the crest, I started again to increase the pace. In the end I was able to PR and wondered if without the walk I could of shave another minute or so. Time will tell, just very happy to finish another good event and gain the confidence to keep pushing.[/text_output][/vc_column][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][text_output][vtftable cols=”{0}0-4:c9daf8;{/}”]
