Training for 100 miles: Road to 100: Week 13/16 Peak Mileage

This is part of a series of posts regarding how I am preparing, planning, and train to complete the 100 miles Ultramarathon Umstead 100: Road to 100. For all the ultrarunning series here is Road to 100 last week’s post and for additional ideas follow the link. Training for a 100.

This is the main training week event. If things do not well, you might still be able to try again next week, but you will be sacrificing a very good recovery week. Putting to practice as much as possible to recreate running in tired legs. After this week and back to back to back runs the time to start to ramp down in load and mileage to recover better.

Assessment:

Think about the transitions, the aid stations, how quickly you can make it in and out. Also, last big runs and time to get the feeling and to figure out if you are going to push the pace or hold back. With a total mileage hovering close to 60% of the event in the span of three days. It is time to put into practice all that we have learned.

Planning:

Prepared the night before, get your zip locks ready, clothes, and running shoes that you will most likely use.

Come morning run or afternoon run, set the stage in a way that will enable you to pay more attention to the final preparation details.

How is the plan going:

This week was another solid week. The workweek mileage was decent, here are some highlights,

Monday: Some weight training and Yoga

Tuesday run: Easy miles, less than planned

Wednesday run: Morning Strength training with an afternoon group run with Insane Runners, a little bit faster than I want it

Thursday run: No run, rest

Friday run: Very easy morning semi-long run in preparation for the back to back to back runs.

The long runs were good too, Saturday: Perfect weather added a couple of extra miles

Sunday: I Felt really good this morning. The original plan was to reach at least 20, but even with the warmer weather, I was able to extend the run at a decent pace. Last-mile was a little bit rough but nothing horrible.
