Spooky Hollowed Half for the Triple

Last event for the Fall triple crown challenge. The temperatures were 5 degrees warmer than last year at the start with also it rising up by mid point of the race. Like previous running events the morning fuel: Oatmeal & coffee but different this time a banana closer to the starting time. There were less people in the event this year compare to last year, at least it felt like that but still a good enough of a running crowd. Not many costumes or memorable ones at least this time either.

With not much announcements and off we went. The first few miles were great, although my sensor stopped working or providing accurate glucose readings, I was feeling good so I did not worry about that. As I continue the sensor reading was still telling me that my sugars were plummeting to the 40s. But I knew that was not the case at all I was feeling good. Even knowing that low reading I was getting from my CGMS, I did not want to adjust the basals, because of the unknown.

Like I mentioned, the first few miles were good. I was keeping in pace to get close to another PR for the year. But the sun was full and out by this time and the temperatures started to go up. I felt it a little bit by mid point of the event, with two of the mile closing in to the 10 minutes pace per miles, too slow for a PR.

The other miles were hovering within the 9 minutes per mile pace and that was my more close to target range. But around mile 11, I did some mental math work and realized that a PR was not going to be possible today. So I decided to relax a bit and be ok with just finishing below the 2 hour mark, pressing just a little bit but not too hard.

Finished the event, got the cool medal for the half and another cool medal for the triple crown. I am glad I did not really push that hard, since the full marathon is coming up next weekend.

[vtftable cols=”{0}0:c9daf8;{/}”] Event Highlight & Learning Points;nn;Highlights:

Venue: At finish simple, with music.

Expo: No Expo

Weather: Overcast 48º with 93% humidity.

T1D: Sugars were good at the start. Sensor started to provide wrong reading. I felt good.

    • Great fun at theme races.
    • Not every event is going to be a PR. Too many uncontrollable variables like weather.
