You signed up for Umstead 100, now what?
Welcome to the official start of the training for Umstead 100. This year, we will be collecting laps, one lap at a time. Although similar to previous training seasons, we will follow a weekly structure/plan. Different this year is an additional section at the end of the post, going back to one of my InsaneRunning blog focus on the Type One Diabetic (T1D) runner, which is also applicable to any diabetic runner. Another addition to our weekly plan/posts is a short, quick audio summary that you can listen to or download when you are running short on time, or simply want to listen to it while completing one of the workouts. Below is a short sample, I think.
This series breaks down the monumental challenge of running 100 miles into a systematic, week-by-week process. We’ll go beyond just logging miles to build the critical systems—fueling, gear, logistics, and mental fortitude—that get you to the finish line, including specialized guidance for Type 1 athletes. It’s a journey of self-discovery and relentless forward motion, one lap at a time.
Tomorrow, we officially kick things off with the release of the full training plan for the Umstead 2026 training season. The plan includes two additional weeks (Week 26 and Week 27), a recommended mileage plan. Those are just a couple of warm-up weeks to get you started, as we sharpen the weekly post to get them ready for you, and we start on Week 25 with our Why?
Get ready to begin and have some InsaneRunning Fun.
