Running Shorts: Free
Every week at work, we have an activity called Monday Reflections, where a question is posted and individuals take the time to reflect, with the option to share their thoughts. Some questions are simple, some are more provocative and require more introspection. This week’s reflection question went something like this: “What if you pinpoint the exact moment when you felt most free, what was your life like at that moment?”
I reflected just for a very short time when it was clear what the answer was and I want it to share with all of you here,
“For me, the moment I feel most free is when I’m running by myself, very early in the morning-just as the sun is about to rise. There’s a light, cool breeze, and I can fill my lungs with the fresh aromas of the forest: wood, leaves, and the slight hint of humidity in the air.
After my muscles have warmed up and running begins to feel effortless, I often reflect on everyone who has been part of my journey-family, friends, and all the people whose paths have crossed mine. Some have stayed with me in my path; others have come and moved on. In those quiet moments, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for everything I’ve received in life, for all the experiences-good, bad, and in between.
Despite the health and life challenges I face, I’m still very grateful for my health and being able to have the ability to be out there, alive and present. In that moment, nothing else matters. I feel truly free, completely at peace with my thoughts and my body.”
So, when you felt most free, what was your life like at that moment?
