In the Pursuit of 24: Week 10

Basically, with ten weeks to showtime, let’s do a quick review of how we got here. But 1st, let us also take some time to reflect on all that we have learned and have been able to put into practice these past ten-plus weeks.

This is part of a series of posts regarding how we prepare, plan, and train to complete the 100 miles Ultramarathon Umstead 100: In the Pursuit of 24. For all the ultrarunning series, here is In the Pursuit of 24, last week’s post, and for additional ideas, follow the link. Training for a 100.

Up to this point, we have covered over 800 training miles.

We have run over five long runs over 20 miles.

We have completed between 1-3 Ultra distances already.

We have run over 12 weeks of Back to Back long runs and a Back to Back to Back long run.

We are in pretty good shape to tackle what is coming up next for training, getting us ready and in preparation for completing the 100-mile event and finishing it with a smile.

Assessment:

Check the upcoming plan and adjust accordingly.

Why I am training and doing this for – Your Why

Your Fueling strategy, what works well? What is not? Planning the calories for training and the event.

The importance of recovery and how to go about it.

Chafing and hot spot areas, taking care of it, and other details.

Planning the course and what to do with time.

Planning:

Review the different topics and evaluate how well you are tackling each one of the areas. It is time to reflect and adjust as we are still learning and getting all the adaptations from the training.

How is the plan going:

This week was another solid week. The workweek mileage was decent; here are some highlights,

Monday: Stretches, nothing fancy

Tuesday: Easy 4 miles

Wednesday: Morning stretches and a great InsaneRunning group run.

Thursday: Rest

Friday: Some Stretches

Saturday: We switched the longer run to Saturday. Phenomenal work from the team: we completed two solid loops at Umstead.

Sunday: Great weather for a long run, shorter than planned, but the total for the weekend was on par.
