Ahhhh, the Coast to Coast Challenge. I get the chance to run two events at Disney and upon completion receive 4 medals and cross CA from the State Challenge list, nice!
I traveled the day before the 10k to LA, my friend Roland was already there and picked me up from LAX. Got to the hotel, went to the expo, collected the bib (Dumbo Double Dare Bib) and went out for a light dinner. But turn out to be more like a Taco Salad dinner. Not bad, but not necessary what I was planning. The reason for the selection this night was that the next day I was going to have some pasta in prep for the half marathon and I did not want to overdose on the same thing twice in a row. After dinner quick short walk around the area and the Disney Boulevard to loose the legs and shake some of the nervousness. Yes I know I have been running events for quite some itme now, but I always get a little bit nervous. I believe is a good thing. Roland and I thought that since we were staying basically walking distance to the area, we want it to instead of running a short run, just do a walk instead. There were a lot of people walking and shopping. Most of them were heading in and out the park area.
In regards of the expo, this one is definitely smaller that the one in Florida, but never the less it was a really good expo compare to other events. Few conversations with the people manning the booths and showcasing products. Some good booths and people sharing their advise is the dominant subject, the ambience was a positive and good one.
On race day, early morning, we got ready with usual routine, oatmeal, coffee and some water. Quick bathroom stop just before heading out to get in the bus that was taking us to the event area and after drop off a walk of about 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the starting line. The dinner last night settle pretty well, so I am not expecting any issues and sugar were holding really good. Once again very well organized event, tons of people and every one was happy to be there and ready to have fun at the race. The route goes around a city block, gets into the park, around the back-ways before crossing the Disneyland castle. Temperature is not too warm and humidity is not that bad either. We take our time, once again, similar to the Disney World 10K event, taking a few pictures with character and enjoying the show. 10k distance came and passed. The original concern was not the get hurt or do something that will compromise the 1/2 marathon the following day and we were successful in completing the event.
After the event, we went for breakfast to replenish some of the energy and to start the preparation for the next day. Very easy run, good event and happy with the results.
